The Declaration of Interdependence Project is a new and unique effort to accelerate earth stewardship through creation of a grass-roots pledge of environmental fellowship. This lyric statement will be translated into weatherproof signs and made available, at no cost, to concerned Minnesota landowners.
For fifty years the American Tree Farm signs along Minnesota’s roadways have effectively proclaimed local landowners’ reforestation ethic. Now, Declaration of Interdependence signs will announce the arrival of a new and broader commitment
to stewardship.
The project begins with extensive canvassing of the general public and specific stakeholders ( ranging from farmers and foresters to philosophers ). The body of ideas and information gained will be distilled down to its common talking points. These will, then, be given to a select group of poets and artists for final composition of the new covenant, and for the development of its image.
The result will be a first of its kind; a visible expression of stewardship for those Minnesotans who clearly realize the role of their own, personal, actions upon the health of our state’s ecosystem. Every Declaration sign placed on the landscape will send out ripples of new environmental awareness.
This project’s innovative partnerships position the literary and visual arts at the very heart of a unique, new, environmental movement.
